I don’t know if Katy Perry would be considered an unexpected artist on a list like this, but to me she’s a given. I like the way she’s playing with prejudices. As I wrote about Lady Gaga, Perry too was mocked by the press for her outfits in the beginning of her career. To me she seems to do it all with a huge portion of self-distance. The act may seem old, girl plays rock in cute outfit, but I think she has managed to do it in her own style. She has created a unique image out of a cliché. And that is my answer to why she is cool. (After all her hits written by famous hit makers I thought it was about time to show a clip of one of the songs Perry has written herself.)
