Few singers can balance desperation and delicacy as Martha Wainwright. Her voice sounds powerful and fragile almost at the same time. She’s got just that kind of voice that I really like – husky and light but at the same time powerful. I wanted to find a good clip of when she sings her song Baby but this clip from when she sings Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole also shows what I was after - her ability to switch between a vulnerable tone and a confident expression in both her lyrics and way of using her voice. That's one reason she's on this list. A reason why she's cool.
