Lucius

This indie band from Brooklyn has been praised for their charisma and charm by NPR. After having seen the clip from their Tiny Desk Concert at NPR Music I’m willing to agree with this statement. A friend of mine sent this to me a while ago and I listened to it almost nonstop for a few days. I was completely taken by the dynamic of the group and how much fun they seemed to have making music together.
But the main reason they finally ended up on this blog is the two lead singers - Jess Wolfe and
Holly Laessig who seems to be in perfect sync with each other. Together they form a very charismatic duo and still they manage to maintain an effortless and relaxed aura.
Unfortunately a lot of the charisma gets lost in the studio recordings. But still, they’re absolutely amazing to watch in live clips.

Valerie June

Valerie June, born Valerie June Hockett, came to my attention when she released her album Pushin’ Against a Stone earlier this year (2013). It does not surprise me to hear that the album was co-written by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys (a personal favorite of mine).
Her unique voice combined with classic folk music makes an interesting combination well worth listening to.
