Nr. 54 – Astrud Gilberto

My sister-in-law talks about how Portuguese is one of the most beautiful languages in the world and while listening to Astrud Gilberto I’m prepared to agree. She is a Brazilian singer with German heritage who eventually ended up in the States making a living as a jazz singer. It’s kind of ironic that the song that established her as a jazz icon was the song The Girl From Ipanema featured on the album Getz/Gilberto. Gilberto had never sung professionally before that and she only appeared on the album at the suggestion of her (then) husband. Why is she cool? I think I’ll let the speaker in the clip give you the answer to that question.
